Internet Scams

As a service to the Residents of the Village of Ridgewood, the Ridgewood Police will post known internet scams online that we have come across.

A recent one that has changed many times is that of the Mystery or Secret Shopper.  Though these positions do exist, the corporations that hire Mystery/Secret Shoppers do NOT solict online.  Especially if you have not signed up for such a program, you are being targeted.  The scammer will send you a check for more than the allotted amount you discussed and have you send the balance forward.  This check is bogus and will result in your bank charging you a bounced check fee plus charge you for the money sent.

Do NOT be a victim.  If you are looking for a job online, make sure you do research on the Company first.  Do NOT take a job that was sent to you unsolicited.  I assure you, you did NOT win the lotterty you did not enter and you would know if you Great Uncle was Royalty.  Feel free to contact The Ridgewood Police if you have any questions.
