The goal of the Ridgewood Police Traffic Bureau is to reduce traffic crashes and injuries while facilitating the safe and expeditious flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the Village of Ridgewood. This objective is accomplished through the three “E’s” of traffic safety, Engineering, Education, and Enforcement. To accomplish this, the traffic bureau partners with the Village Engineering Department in reviewing plans for new construction projects or developments as it relates to traffic safety and crime prevention. The traffic bureau has also created or participated in public education campaigns regarding the major traffic problems affecting the Village. Lastly we conduct enforcement campaigns such as “Click it or Ticket” and “Over the Limit Under Arrest” throughout the year in concert with state and federal programs.
The Traffic Bureau also represents the Police Department at the Village of Ridgewood Citizen Safety Advisory Council. This public group is an initiative to assist the public in bringing safety concerns to Village officials in a forum attended by members of the public, municipal officials and department representatives from several village departments.
To accomplish our mission, the traffic bureau utilizes numerous pieces of equipment such as RADAR speed measurement, LIDAR Laser speed measurement, Traffic Study Equipment, Variable Message Sign, and Automated License Plate Reader. The Traffic Bureau also conducts or participates in NJ MVC Roadside Inspection Enforcement, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Pedestrian Decoy, Click It or Ticket, Over the Limit under Arrest, and NJ Safe Roads campaigns.
The Traffic Bureau is staffed by two full time officers, three part time officers, and is supervised by Sergeant Brian Pullman.
