Truly successful organizations owe their achievement to a sound set of core values, from which policies and actions are derived and guided. These values not only guide the organization’s vision and strategic plans but must be an integral part of the organization’s daily operation. The Ridgewood Police Department subscribes to a set of governing values, which clearly states the department’s beliefs as an agency. The values of this department have been demonstrated by a long history quality and compassionate service to our community. Our values are;

Integrity - The Ridgewood Police department and its personnel can only succeed in their mission if we maintain our integrity. Our authority comes from the trust bestowed upon us. Once this trust is broken, by an individual or by the department, our actions are rightfully called into question. The department and its employees must hold themselves to a standard that is beyond reproach.  We are committed to nurturing the public trust by holding ourselves to the highest standards of professional & ethical conduct.

 

Professionalism- We believe in adherence to the highest professional standards in our actions, conduct and job performance. We are proud of our rich tradition of providing quality police services to the residents and visitors of Ridgewood. We are proud to be a part of a noble profession that is called upon to maintain safety, security and public order in a free society. We are proud of the real partnerships we have with the people we serve. We are proud of the highly motivated, highly trained, and highly respected personnel we have. Community - We believe that the cornerstone of this department is the relationship we have with the community we serve. Our ability to be effective in carrying out our mission is based on the credibility we have with the community. Understanding that we are a part of, and not separate from, the community is critical. Although we are granted full-time responsibility for policing the community, we cannot do it without the approval and cooperation of the public. We are committed to empowering our members and the community to resolve problems by creating a collaborative environment that encourages holistic solutions that address the needs of the community.

 

 

Courage – We believe in Courage. We will exercise physical courage by reacting appropriately to threats even when faced with physical risk. We will demonstrate moral courage by doing what is right even when not popular with others. Wheelchair symbol plates and persons with a disability placards

Individuals who meet the medical qualifications are eligible to choose from one of three options:

One set of wheelchair symbol license plates

One person with a disability placard

One set of plates and one placard

Qualified applicants can receive one set of wheelchair symbol license plates for a vehicle registered either to the qualified person with a disability or to one family member who provides them with transportation. See the Qualifications page for detailed information.

The person with a disability placard will authorize you to park any vehicle in a wheelchair symbol parking space as long as the person designated on the “Person with a Disability Identification Card” is in the vehicle and has their ID card with them.

The "Person with a Disability Identification Card" must be in the vehicle or with the qualified person at all times as proof of disability. This card is non-transferable and must be with you at all times to utilize the wheelchair symbol parking privileges. Any abuse or misuse of this privilege will be cause for immediate revocation of the ID card, placard and plates.

Persons with a disability parking privileges are valid for 3 year periods, after which a new application and certification by an approved medical practitioner must be submitted.

Temporary placards are issued for six months, with one six-month renewal allowed.

To apply for a temporary parking placard you must:

1.Download and complete the Temporary Placard Application [pdf] or visit a local, municipal police department to obtain the application.

2.Have a qualified medical practitioner certify that you are qualified for a temporary placard; see Qualifications for medical certification information.

3.Submit the completed application to a municipal police department with a check or money order made payable to MVC in the amount of $4.00.

4.After review and upon approval by the municipal Chief of Police, their department will issue your temporary placard.

TEMPORARY PLACARD APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED IN PERSON TO THE POLICE RECORDS DEPARTMENT AND ARE APPROVED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE.

Identity Theft occurs when someone uses your personally identifying information like your name, Social Security number, or credit card number without your permission to commit fraud or other crimes. According to the Federal Trade Commission, approximately 9 million Americans have their identity stolen each year. Identity thieves may use your personally identifying information to establish lines of credit, bank accounts, credit card accounts and other forms of credit. You may not find out your identity has been compromised until you receive a bill in the mail or are contacted by a debt collector.

Recruitment

Applications are available for The New Jersey Civil Service Commission Law Enforcement Examination. The Ridgewood Police Department uses the eligibility list provided by the State to hire candidates. The test is given every three years. Click on the link below for more information. 

1. Applicants must be citizens of the United States as of August 31, 2016.

2. Applicants must meet the residency requirements of the appointing jurisdiction as of August 31, 2016 and may be required to maintain continuous residency in that jurisdiction up to and including the date of appointment.

3. Applicants must be high school or vocational high school graduates, or possess an approved High School Equivalency Certificate by August 31, 2016.

4. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age as of August 31, 2016. Applicants for Municipal Police Officer and its bilingual variant positions cannot be over 35 years of age (one is considered over 35 on the day of his/her 35th birthday) as of August 31, 2016, unless they meet the exceptions in "Maximum hiring age requirement for Municipal Police Officer" as indicated on the Fact Sheet. NOTE: The age 35 maximum hiring requirement applies only to Municipal Police Officer and its bilingual variants.

5. Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

6. Appointees may be required to pass thorough medical and drug screening, and psychological/psychiatric examinations. Failure of any of these is cause for removal from that title area.

7. Appointees will be required to successfully complete a training program mandated by the NJ Police Training Commission. This training must be completed prior to enrollment in the Police and Fire Retirement System.

8. After you complete and submit your online application, you will receive a confirmation page which includes a link and access code to the Candidate Preparation Guide. Please print your confirmation page prior to going to the link.

An abbreviated application is used for this title. Information regarding education, experience, licenses/certifications, training or internships is not collected.
