History
Drive past Citizens Park any day of the week and you will likely see kids at play. Citizens hosts baseball, softball and tee-ball games along with soccer and physical education classes since it is located across from George Washington Middle School. On weekends, Citizens is a popular place for parents and children to play catch, toss around a football, throw a Frisbee and fly kites. And, after a snowfall, it is the number one spot in the Village for sledding. (Be sure to get there early!)
Located at the corner of Godwin Avenue and North Monroe Street, Citizens Park was acquired by the Village through fundraising efforts in the late 1960s - an effort led by Open Space Committee Member Francis Schott. Citizens Park includes a baseball/softball field, multipurpose field, a small-sided tee-ball field, an open play area, benches and gardens.
